Without any context, the Red Potion inTerrariamay seem like some sort of challenge-only item that only hinders the player. Such items are not uncommon in the more difficult of games these days (like the Calamity Ring fromDark Soulstrilogy), however, there are sometimes more to them than meets the eye.

The Red Potion was first introduced intoTerrariain order to test how debuffs work on players, which explains its extremely debilitating effects. If players consume a Red Potion, they will receive 11 different debuffs for a lengthy period of time (1 hour in Classic Mode, 2 hours in Expert Mode, and 3 hours in Master Mode).
Afterward, however, they were changed a bit for the sake of a seed-related secret. These usually debilitating potions will instead give players 3 mostly random buffs, but only if they are consumed in a “For the Worthy” world.
What Red Potions Do
A Red Potion will cause different effects depending on where one drinks it–in a regular world, it will cause players to be afflicted with 11 debuffs simultaneously. Here are those effects and what they do:
Poisoned
Prevents HP regeneration and the afflicted loses 2 HP per second
Prevents the player from using items, including weapons and consumables
Prevents passive HP regeneration, but not other means of healing
Cuts the player’s horizontal movement speed in half
Silence
Prevents the player from using items that are powered by mana as well as prevents the use of magic and summoning
Suffocation
The player loses 20 HP per second if they are within a block that blocks air (sand, silt, and slush blocks)
Reduces screen visibility
On Fire!
Prevents HP regeneration and the afflicted loses 4 HP per second (29 HP per second if they are covered in oil)
Inverts all of the player’s controls
Broken Armor
Cuts the player’s defense in half

How To Enter A “For The Worthy” World
This map is quite easy to find, as, in the seed text field, players must enter “for the worthy” (not case sensitive) to generate this specific universe.
