One of the most popular first-person shooter games ever made isGoldenEye 007. Based on the James Bond film of the same name, developer Rare managed to revolutionize console FPS games withGoldenEye 007, with it becoming one of the Nintendo 64’s absolute must-have games.GoldenEye 007’s popularity has persisted for years, but due to a variety of licensing problems and other issues, the game has never been re-released.
Activision took a shot at aGoldenEye 007remake, but it turned the game into aCall of Dutyclone and didn’t feature any of the content that made the original such a hit back in the day. Again, this was due to licensing issues as the Xbox-owned Rare developed the game, Nintendo published it, and Activision had control of the James Bond license. But while this licensing nightmare has keptGoldenEye 007from receiving a remaster or modern re-release, it’s not for lack of trying.

Rare reportedly developed aGoldenEye 007remaster for Xbox Live Arcadethat Xbox hoped to release, but those plans were dashed to the aforementioned licensing issues. However, there’s been a new development that suggests that aGoldenEye 007remaster or port to modern consoles may actually happen. A list forGoldenEye 007Xbox achievements has appeared online, complete with artwork for each achievement, suggesting that the remaster could be happening sooner rather than later.
An official announcement has not happened at the time of this writing, and so it’s best forGoldenEye 007fansto keep their expectations in check. It’s entirely possible that there is nothing to this leaked achievement list, so fans should keep that in mind. Even so, it’s some of the most compelling evidence that aGoldenEye 007remaster exists, and if so, fans now know what they’ll need to do to unlock all of the achievements.
GoldenEye 007 Xbox Achievements List
The list, which originally appeared on True Achievements, shows whatGoldenEye 007players will have to do to unlock everything, and for the most part it’s pretty straight forward. Most of the achievements revolve around theGoldenEye 007single-player campaign, wherein players go through a variety of levels based on scenes from theGoldenEye 007film. It seems each level has an achievement attached to it, so fans will be unlocking plenty of gamerscore as they play through the story.
After beating theGoldenEye 007story, Xbox gamers will then have to tackle it on higher difficulty levels to unlock additional achievements while also completing speedruns to unlock cheats. TheleakedGoldenEye 007achievements, assuming the list is real, basically shepherd players through unlocking everything in the game, and so players don’t have to go out of their way to do something ridiculous to unlock any of the achievements. Unless one counts beating the levels fast and on hard difficulties ridiculous, that is.
While most of theGoldenEye 007leaked achievements revolve around the single-player experience, there are some that are focused on multiplayer as well.GoldenEye 007’s multiplayer is a big reason why the game was so popular at the time of its original release and why it remained popular for years thereafter. Considering this, it makes sense that there are a variety of achievements that revolve around the multiplayer experience.
Like the single-player achievements, though, the leaked multiplayer achievements forGoldenEye 007pretty much just reward players for playing the game, with an achievement for playing 10 matches and another for getting 100 kills in multiplayer over time. There’s also a funny achievement that players can unlock forplaying as Oddjob, who was notorious in the original game for being an unfair choice as his short height made him more difficult to shoot.
2022 marks the 25th anniversary ofGoldenEye 007’s release, so if a remaster was ever going to come, now seems like the perfect time. However, there are some lingering questions about the remaster that will need answered. For instance, will the game feature new graphics, or will it stick with the Nintendo 64 art style? Will it offer a revamped control scheme or use a similar setup to what it did in 1997? And finally, will theGoldenEye 007remaster have online multiplayer support?
If theGoldenEye 007remaster is real as this leaked achievement list indicates, fans should get their answers sooner rather than later. And if it’s real, one has to wonder how the licensing issues were resolved. Maybe a deal was made where the game will release for both Nintendo Switch and Xbox, or maybe the parties involved came to some other agreement. For now, fans will want to wait for an official announcement for theGoldenEye 007remasterbefore they get too excited.
