Summary

Genshin Impact’sRaiden Shogun took the internet by storm when she was first released. Not only was she a great Electro applicator, but she was viable in many team comps. She added off-field damage, could be used as a sub-DPS, and was even considered a good support. But being so versatile means that she sounded confusing to build.

However, she was much more straightforward than players believed. The Raiden Shogun is a fantastic unit that requires a lot of energy recharge, but that’s about it. Any additional stats/sub-stats vary for theRaiden Shogun team comps. But regardless of how players build her, she will always perform well.

Genshin Impact’s Raiden Shogun’s Kit

Her normal attack talent doesn’t do much for her kit. Simply put, it’s not key to her play style no matter what team she’s used in. Even if she’s the one on-field the longest, the most viable talents are the Raiden Shogun’s elemental skill and elemental burst. It is widely regarded as a waste of resources to level her normal attack, especially sincefarming hand guards from Nobushican be difficult.

Her elemental skill is a combination of Xingqiu’s and Fischl’s. When the player uses normal attacks, she will occasionally apply Electro and deal damage. The best use of her skill is when it is used in conjunction with other elemental attacks. Be it from skills like Xingqiu’s burst or normal attacks from a catalyst, triggeringelemental reactions inGenshin Impactis the Raiden Shogun’s specialty.

Genshin Impact’sDendro update made this even better. With the addition of reactions like Spread, Aggravate, and Hyperbloom, the Raiden Shogun has found a home in even more team comps. As a meta unit, she’s a safe pull for just about any player. Even if someone isn’t sure where to use her, just sticking her in a team is bound to show improvements to damage.

Raiden Shogun’s burst is a massive damage opportunity. For about seven seconds, she will switch to using a sword instead of a polearm (though, strictly in terms of animation, as players do not need to worry about a second weapon for her). While on-field, she deals massive Electro damage. And with theRaiden Shogun’s second constellation, she dishes out far more, as her C2 ignores 60% of enemies DEF.

Ignoring such a large chunk of defense is insane, no matter the circumstances. It’s most often referred to as the best constellation inGenshin Impactflat out. With that being the case, players should know that she does not need the constellation to do good damage. Using one of theRaiden Shogun’s recommended weaponsand her best-in-slot artifact set is a solid way to ensure she still does good damage.

As someone so flexible, players might assume that just about any artifact set would work well on her. And while this could vary from team to team, the best option for the Raiden Shogun’s artifacts is almost always going to be Emblem of Severed Fate. She is also commonly used in the Spiral Abyss, and as apopular Spiral Abyss character, it’s important to at least have one good Emblem set for her. Since it’s been added to the strongbox as of 4.0, players can farm other needed sets and put any extras in the strongbox in hopes of getting a good set for the Shogun and others.

Overall, the Shogun is a versatile unit with many applications. Whether she’s used as a sub-DPS, a battery, or a support, she is a highly valuable character. The Raiden Shogun has remained in the meta since her release and isn’t likely to be shaken from it any time soon.

Genshin Impactis now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5.
