TheAlan Wake 2developers have recently confirmed that the upcoming title will last for around 20 hours, being about twice the size of its predecessor. The game, which will be released in October, willbe a lot like the originalAlan Wake, but will also bring many changes to the table, such as having two protagonists.
TheAlan Wakesequel, which comes over a decade after the cult classic was originally released, has taken some inspiration fromTrue Detective, especially concerning its distinctive visual style. Molly Maloney, a narrative designer for the title, confirmed thatTrue Detective’s first season inspired some of the game’s ritualistic murders and the narrative, too. While the originalAlan Wakewas an action-adventure game focused on psychological horror, the sequel is going to be a full survival horror title, and it will come with several changes in gameplay.

Now, the developers of Remedy Entertainment have revealed thatAlan Wake 2will be quite bigger than the original game. During an interview with WCCFTech, the devs behindAlan Wake 2revealed that the game will last for just a bit over 20 hours, as it will have two intertwined campaigns, one featuring the first game’s protagonist Alan, and another focused on Saga Anderson, an FBI agent. The originalAlan Wakelasted for around 10 hours or so, so gamers can expect the sequel to have twice its size and still be packed with content.
There’s a good reason forAlan Wake 2to be a bigger game, though. Everything inAlan Wake 2comes in two, starting from its protagonists. Gamers will be able to see both Alan andSaga Anderson’s perspectives, switching between the characters to solve not one, but two mysteries at the same time. This will give them the chance to explore two distinct worlds, each with its own kinds of threats and challenges.
Alan Wake 2will release in Octoberand, unfortunately, it may have fierce competition, at least on PS5, as the newSpider-Mangame will also be released during this month. While both games may be very mechanically and tonally different, games are getting increasingly more expensive these days, soSpider-Man 2may well snatch some of the sales ofAlan Wake 2. However, the developers don’t seem to be afraid of the competition, as they confirmed in the interview that the most important thing is to “make the best game they can,” and they’re pretty sure that they’re doing that.
Alan Wake 2is due for release on June 11, 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
