Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandsdoes a fair bit to distinguish itself from theBorderlandsseries, but the connections between the two are also very clear. For every innovation likethe Overworld mapor the game’s character creator, there is a classicBorderlandsfeature like purchasable SDUs or red text. While the weapon manufacturers may boast some new names, the guns of Blackpowder function just like Jakobs weaponry but with a fantasy aesthetic.

With many of the core features and mechanics ofTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsbeing pulled fromBorderlands, fans have been quick to notice aspects from the main series that have been removed. While the lack of dueling may not be a big deal, other mechanics are missed. For instance, theBorderlandsseries’ iconic slot machines would be a lot of fun to see inTiny Tina’s Wonderlands, giving players another thing to do inside Brighthoof.

Borderlands’ Slot Machines Are Missed in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

TheBorderlandsseries has used slot machines effectively sinceBorderlands 2, with many falling in love with the gambling mechanic of Moxxi’s bar. If players visited her establishment in Sanctuary, they could spin slot machines for loot - keeping themselves busy by trading some money for a chance at Legendary weapons, fresh skins, or Eridium. This feature returned inBorderlands: The Pre-SequelandBorderlands 3, with the latter providing an abundance of slot machines inthe Handsome Jackpot DLC.

While one could argue that slot machines do not fit well in a fantasy setting, that is hard case to make consideringTiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ use of guns. With The Wonderlands being Tina’s world, she could insert anything she wants, so it would make sense for her to include some games for the Fatemaker to play. Further, considering that she has a crush on Mad Moxxi, adding some of her machines would be a sweet tribute from the explosives expert.

Further, the belovedBorderlands 2DLC Assault on Dragon Keepfeatured slot machines, so Gearbox has already included this fun distraction in a fantasy setting once before. If slot machines were added toTiny Tina’s Wonderlands, they could function much like those from past games, swapping out Eridium with Moon Orbs. If Gearbox wanted to go even further with the aesthetic for the machines, the developer could make them work like the dice-rolling chests from Assault on Dragon Keep.

Currently, the hub area lacks things for players to do to keep themselves busy. A small shooting range can be seen, and poetry can be listened to in Izzy’s Fizzies, but that is about it.Borderlands 3’s room customizationis nowhere to be seen, and with the slots also missing, there is a lack of entertainment options in Brighthoof. With players often needing to wait for their friends to gear up, adding something like the slot machines so that they could keep busy would be great.

The slot machines could even feature inTiny Tina’s WonderlandsChaos Chamberif they were brought to the game. During runs, a slot machine could randomly spawn in an arena, asking players to trade some of their hard-earned crystals for a chance at rare loot or a larger batch of crystals. While the upcoming addition ofTiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ Wheel of Fate may be why Gearbox held off on adding slot machines, the mechanic is popular for a reason, and it would be great to see it make a comeback in the future.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandsis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
