Tower of God Season 2 Episode 1

Just who are they, and what is the reason for their operations?

What Happened To Bam?

The Aftermath of Betrayal

During the events of the latter stages of the first season ofTower of God, Bam attempts to climb the tower together with Rachel, who was thought to be paralyzed from the waist down after an unfortunate incident during the Position Test held on the second floor of the tower. As they ascended, Rachel stood up and pushed Bam off the platform on which they ascended. GivenBam’s immense Shinsu control, he was able to survive a fall into the abyss, where he was found by the Regular known as Hwaryun, who then trained him. Six years later, Bam has assumed a new identity as Jue Viole Grace, an agent of the Slayers division of a faction known as FUG. In episode 1 and 2 of the second season ofTower of God, characters who have taken note of Viole’s attire have had fear take over their hearts when they realized what the insignia on his clothing signifies.

The Objectives of FUG

Mark of the Slayer

The mysterious organization operating within the tower known as FUG has been described as an “anti-Jahad” faction. It is unknown what “FUG” stands for. Viole describes his objective in the second episode ofTower of Godseason 2 as “the complete destruction of Jahad and his family”. Jahad has been described as the first person to climb the tower, having gone up 143 floors. Over the course of the first season, and at the beginning of season 2, we were given a glimpse into Jahad through the famed “Princesses of Jahad”. This was a group of elite women from various origins who are selected by King Jahad, becoming like proxies and enforcers of his authority as “the best the tower has to offer”. In exchange for serving Jahad, they receive his power. It is seen as a position of immense honour that is almost impossible to achieve. FUG is made up of people who harbour a grudge against Jahad as well as the 10 Great Families.

The Slayers are a group of individuals tasked with the decimation of Jahad and the 10 Great Families, with Jue Viole Grace being the first that we’ve been introduced to in the anime so far. He is identified as a Slayer based on the insignia on his robe; however, he is only a Slayer candidate at this stage. The Slayers are all supposedly very powerful and are revered by members of FUG as gods, and there have been three generations of Slayers since the inception of FUG in the Age of Genesis thousands of years ago. In ancient times, the Jahad Empire emerged victorious in a great war that broke out across the tower prior to the events of the current plot, which led toJahad becoming King of the Tower. Upon Jahad’s coronation, FUG was established to oppose the new order imposed by Jahad, inciting a new war between themselves and the forces of Jahad.

Enemies of Jahad

Dissent Is Not Tolerated

Despite being feared immensely as a criminal organization, FUG does not have much power in the tower due to Jahad’s overwhelming influence and strategic decimation of opposition factions throughout history. In the previous season, Jahad’s power in the tower was exhibited through the behaviour of Rankers like Lo Po Bia Ren, who was sent by the King to eliminate Anaak, an individual dubbed “the Shame of Jahad” due to the fact that her mother, a Princess of Jahad, engaged in a romantic relationship and subsequently gave birth to a daughter.

At multiple points do we see that even Administrators and Rankers enact the will of Jahad, and in season 2 episode 2, the administrator of the Shinsu control test, Love, hid his contempt for Viole as he refused to assemble a team to advance with him due to a conflict of interests. For Viole, being a member of FUGmakes him the enemy of those who wish to climb the tower, and all those who bear any kind of relation or affiliation to Jahad. Towards the end of the episode, it was made clear that Viole’s statements make him a threat to the Jahadi order, and as such, Love has marked Viole for elimination.
