Twitch streamers tend to jump between games with relative frequency. These jumps are typically self-explanatory, due to reasons like a new game launching, an old game overstaying its welcome, or Twitch streamers hunting a new fad. Asmongold, known for his MMOstreaming on Twitch, is always willing to discuss the reasons why he stops playing one game and starts another. In a recent broadcast, Asmongold did just that, telling his viewers why he stopped playing the MMOBlack Desert Onlinesome time ago.
Black Desert Onlinelaunched in the west in 2016, and Asmongold took the opportunity to try it out while also continuing to streamWorld of Warcraft, as it was his bread and butter. Asmongold explains that he even joined a “sweaty” guild named Gravity, a guild that took the game very seriously and played competitively. Asmongold explains that this is what he looks for in an MMO, but in this specific circumstance, it forced him to make a difficult decision.

The issue was that Asmongold was being pulled in too many directions at once. HisBlack Desert Onlineguild wanted him to be dedicated to it, doingSiegesand practicing for Sieges, among other important tasks for a high-end competitive player. Asmongold says that balancingBlack Desert Onlinewith his other obligations, like streaming and playingWorld of Warcraft, was “exhausting” and too much. As a result, he quit.
Asmongold also addressed the possibility of just playingBlack Desert Onlinecasually, rather than quitting the game entirely. But theTwitch streamerexplained that he doesn’t do that. If he’s playing something he wants to go all in, and if he can’t go all in then he’d rather quit. That’s why Asmongold ultimately stepped away fromBlack Desert Online, rather than playing the game casually when he wasn’t focused onWorld of Warcraft.
There were likely other contributing factors to Asmongold quittingBlack Desert Onlinethat he didn’t address. IfBlack Desert Onlinewas more popularthanWorld of Warcrafton Twitch, Asmongold would likely have been persuaded to stick with the game. Asmongold also didn’t mention whether he actually enjoyedBlack Desert Onlineor not.
Regardless, Asmongold’s willingness to share his thoughts on all of the games he plays remains one of his strengths as a Twitch streamer. His candidness and his crassness may be offputting to some, but it is why Asmongold’s audience follows him. His more recent thoughts onWorld of WarcraftandFinal Fantasy 14are also good examples of this.
Black Desert Onlineis available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
