TwitchStreamer Esfand inadvertently did a solid for a thief while leaving a shopping mall. The incident occurred during a recent IRL stream, and while theOne True King co-founderdoesn’t seem to be in trouble, it’s certainly an unexpected occurrence to capture live on camera.

Esfand started his career on YouTube in 2016 and began streaming onTwitchthe following year. Initially known as aWorld of Warcraftstreamer, he also earned a name for himself as a prominentPUBGstreamer alongside the popular streamer Asmongold. He’s also branched out to streaming other game content and real-life activities like cooking, boxing, and weightlifting. Esfand went on to found the gaming organization One True King, or OTK, with Mizkif, Asmongold, Tips Out, and Rich Campbell in October 2020.

Esfand spent over six hours yesterday live streaming from San Francisco, the location of the2023 Game Developers Conference. During the latter part of the stream, he spent a great deal of time walking around the Westfield San Francisco Center, a large mall only a few blocks from the Convention Center where GDC 2023 is taking place. He makes his way to the exit a little after the six-hour 20-minute mark, holding the door open for the man behind him, who appears to be carrying a bag and an iPad. A pair of security guards in yellow and black jackets followed a few seconds later, shouting and pointing at the suspect.

“Oh frick,” the streamer said after the security guards ran outside to confront the suspect, “did I just pull an Uncle Ben by holding a door open for a thief?” His comment presumably refers to the scene fromSam Raimi’s 2002Spider-Manmovie, where Peter Parker inadvertently gets his uncle killed by letting a thief run past him into an elevator. Fortunately, this incident has not had such fatal consequences.

The thief appears to have made off with an iPad and a bag that may or may not contain additional stolen items. It’s unclear from the stream if security managed to catch up with the thief. Either way, the Twitch streamer’s annoyance is quite apparent as he makes his way down the street, restating how he was just trying to be polite and hold the door open for someone. However, that did not stop some members of Esfand’s chat from joking that this technically made him an accomplice in the robbery.

It’s not unheard of forTwitch streamers to capture crimes on camera, with a few even being on-screen victims themselves. Fortunately, Esfand wasn’t directly punished for his good deed and was able to walk away unharmed and with all his possessions still on him. Still, this goes to show just how unpredictable IRL streaming can get.
