Last year, Wahlberg teased fans by sharing an Instagram video of himself sporting a mustache. It had fans excited because it meant that the film would be keeping Sully’s appearance as close to the game as possible. However, seeing Wahlberg’s Sully without the mustache in the new still from theUnchartedmovie has left many fans unhappy. Additionally, some pointed out that Holland wasn’t even dressed like Drake, and that the image did not representthe world ofUnchartedthey had gotten used to seeing over the course of the four mainline games that have been released thus far.
Based on the Naughty Dog video game series, theUnchartedmovie will work as an origin storyfor Drake and Sully, some of the most popular game characters. For those who haven’t played the games, Drake is a globe-trotting treasure hunter and Sully is like his father figure and mentor. Since the film will be set prior to the events covered in the games, it could explain why Sully’s mustache hasn’t grown out yet. However, inUncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, fans were offered a look at young Drake first meeting Sully, so it would be interesting to see what direction the story goes in the film.
Apart from Holland and Wahlberg, the film stars Sophia Taylor Ali as Chloe Frazer, Antonio Banderas in a potentially villainous role, and Tati Gabrielle. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer, who has previously worked on movies likeZombielandandVenom. The movie has been spoken about for more than a decade and has faced several delays, especially since many of thedirectors left theUnchartedprojectover the course of its development. With shooting finally complete, fans are hoping they will get to see the live-action adaptation soon.
Unchartedis expected to release in theaters on July 24, 2025.
