Undertalebecame an indie phenomenon upon its release and still holds a place in many players' hearts.New games likeGarden Storymerit attention for many first and foremost because they remind them ofUndertalein one way or another.

While not very long, the actual gameplay ofUndertalecycles between an engaging story and mostly puzzle-based gameplay. This includes both the overworld and the combat, as each enemy is a different puzzle to be solved. The overworld puzzles aren’t super difficult, but one in particular, the piano puzzle, is a little bit obtuse. Here’s how to successfully complete theUndertalepiano puzzle.

Piano Puzzle Solution in Undetale

Waterfall is the third area inUndertaleand consists of a haunting watery area filled with underground rain and talking flowers. The piano puzzle shows up after some flower-related puzzles and doesn’t actually block the player’s progress. Therefore, the fastest way to solve the puzzle is to ignore it completely. However, if players really want to experience as much ofUndertaleas possible (and who wouldn’t), the puzzle requires them to learn a bit about the game’s soundtrack. ConsideringUndertale’s soundtrack is still one of thebest reasons to play it on Xbox Game Pass, this is not a bad thing.

To complete the puzzle, players must play the first seven notes of a particular song. While the plaque nearby says that the first eight notes are required, as of update 1.001, this is no longer the case. The piano can be played with the Z button and arrow keys for five notes possible total. To learn the song, players must first pick up the umbrella, which appears to be an optional item for the most part. Knowing that it’s required is probably something many playerswished they knew before startingUndertale.

Once the umbrella is on the statue, the music box inside that statue will no longer be waterlogged and will start to play. Stand still and listen, and eventually, the notes required will appear on the wall above the statue. Actually playing the piano after that is easy, just one more pattern to memorize, and far easier thanUndertale’s harder challenges.

Playing the first seven notes correctly opens up a hidden passage for players to explore. Within is an artifact of indescribable power, which could grant the player a much-needed boost. Once players have unlocked it, it’s back to the rest of the level and waiting for thenextDeltaruneupdate.

Undertaleis available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
