InV Rising, players channelthe powers of the vampiresto dominate the night of Vardoran. With an incredibly detailed weapon ability and magic system, this hack & slash from Stunlock Games has risen in popularity among fans of the survival genre. Since its release, the game has added more weapons, magic, and even passive abilities.

The magic types are divided into Chaos, Blood, Storm, Illusion, Frost, and Unholy, and there are many builds players can try until they find the most suitable for their playstyle. This ranked list analyzes every magic type from weakest to strongest, considering power, PvP/PvE utility, effects, and possible builds.

Unholy Magic V Rising Invaders of Oakveil

Updated June 19, 2025, by Lucas Simons:With theInvaders of Oakveilexpansion V Rising has added tons of interesting new features, weapons, and a full revision of their Magic System. That means some types of magic have been greatly nerfed, while others have become the new meta. The Ranking of the best types of Magic has changed slightly, with Blood becoming tremendously powerful thanks to the new Elemental Awakenings and Vampire Awakenings that empower this branch to the extreme. Frost has suffered a slight nerf, while Storm and Chaos have been rebalanced. Illusion has suffered changes too, and not for the best, a repurpose of its most interesting passive, Phantasm, has become a crippling nerf that has players maining this Magic type grinding their gears. So, let’s take a look at how these changes have affected each type of Magic, including the addition of their new spells.

6Unholy Magic

Great For PvE, But Performs Poorly On PvP

If players want to be vampire necromancers, then this magic type is for them. Unholy is mainly strong in PvE, enabling players to clear huge waves of enemies, which is great when they need to clear Rifts in Mortium, and it also offers considerable utility and protection against bosses. The ability to summon many skeletons has been greatly limited (Maximum 5 Skeletons, 2 Mages, and 1 Death Knight). The only good thing this magic had was the power to create infinite skeletons, the more enemies hit the players using Ward of the Dammned, but since the last patch, this is not possible anymore, since the skeleton summoning has been reduced to a ‘probability effect’ and limited to only 5 skeletons per Shield cast.

Overall, its passive ability, Condemn, makes players cause more damage, and the enemies affected by it become skeletons when they die. Simple enough, and it allows players to deal more damage as they summon swarms of enemies. Army Of The Dead and Death Knight are also a killer combo for PvE. There are not too many options to survive a PvP encounter, except maybe its newest addition: Unholy Chains, but it requires players to be locked into a certain distance from the target while channeling, so they become sitting ducks for other Vampires in the meantime.

Illusion Magic V Rising Invaders of Oakveil

Sadly, this magic type is not viable in PvP, since the two magic types that dominate that field are tremendously overpowered with their AoE and powerful buffs that counter the undead army all the time. There’s also the possibility to play the support role using Unholy, but it requires a lot of coordination with the team. Thankfully, the game has anintegrated voice chat system, so it is possible to use this magic type in the support role during PvE fights, with some team coordination from their Vampire clan.

5Illusion Magic

Has Seen Better Days, Nerfed And Weakened

Illusion Magic is versatile and easy to use, and can save players from most situations and carry them through all the PvE content in the game. It has a dual passive, Weaken and Phantasm: casting spells on enemies weakens them, reducing their damage output, while also giving players charges of Phantasm, and each charge reduces the spell cooldown by 1% up to 10%, and grant players charges that once reaching 100, they refund the next spell casted.

Illusion magic used to be the ‘spam to win’ spell tree inV Rising, but now, it has been greatly affected by nerfs, and its Phantasm passive now grants a stack that once reaching 100, it automatically refunds the next cast spell. No longer refreshing the Cooldowns instantly, nor triggering under a probability.

Chaos Magic V Rising Invaders of Oakveil

This magic type still has many useful spells that grant overshield and healing when players pair them with the correct jewels. Spectral Wolf and Wraith Lance can both grant overshield and healing with Tier 3/4 jewels, making them into uber buff spells, while also causing slow on enemies. Though it falls short on damage output, this is still a good Magic Type if players know how to work through its lack of damage and the nerfed passive. Combine this with the Scholar Type or Draculin blood, to maximize the damage output of spells, and cooldown reduction.

4Chaos Magic

Burn And More Burn - Great AoE, Great Damage, Great Passive

A Vampire playing with a matchbox is a force to be reckoned with, and more so if this comes with a brutally overpowered passive, incredible AoE coverage, slow effects, damage over time, and huge amounts of overall damage. The best thing about Chaos Magic is that players can choose to play it at short or long-range, since its burning effects won’t affect the player or their clan members.

Chaos Magic is guaranteed to cause fear among enemies, and with the addition of Rain of Chaos, the most spectacular AoE spell in the game, it has become critical in some prolonged fights against enemy Vampires (especially Sieges). Be it in PvE or PvP battles, Chaos spells are incredibly useful, and are guaranteed to cause lots of hurt with its passive, Ignite, which causes 50% damage over time of a spell’s base damage, and if players hit an ignited target, it causes a burst of damage in an AoE and a small slow effect.

Storm Magic V Rising Invaders of Oakveil

Void is still a meta spell that can be improved using jewels, and with Tier 3/4 options, it causes tremendous disruption in PvP battles. Aftershock is useful in early game stages, and Chaos Barrage is the Ultimate Spell that causes more damage than most ultimates, though its long cooldown is one of its cons. In the late game, whenplayers have access to Legendary Weaponsthat increase spell power to the maximum, they can bring down a late-game boss (or an enemy vampire) with only a few spells.

3Storm Magic

Fast And Deadly, Ideal For Attack Speed Builds

Storm Magic used to be weak, but now, thanks to the changes introduced inInvaders of Oakveil,it has become meta. Attack speed is now truly meaningful, especially withthe addition of the Claws and Twinbladesthat greatly benefit from the boost in attack speed of Veil of Storm and the many speed buffs spells like Lightning Curtain generate when they are equipped with a Jewel that grants attack speed when players pass through the spell’s AoE.

Storm now has incredible PvE potential, snowballing little by little until becoming the best to clear huge chunks of enemies, especially during Rift events. The full potential of Storm Magic comes in the late game, and those looking for a great option to switch to PvP even when they are farming should pick this Magic type due to its extreme versatility. However, its utility for PvP action is still below Frost and Blood, which have been dominating the PvP rankings for a while.

Frost Magic V Rising Invaders of Oakveil-1

Its special effect is Static, and it has been slightly changed to produce a chain lightning effect that scales with 50% of Spell Power, and has great utility in both PvE and PvP. This type of Magic has two extremely useful spells that combo well with each other: one is Polarity Shift, and the other is Bal Lightning. These two spells, combined with Veil of Storm and a Longsword (or the Claws), can confuse the enemy vampire and throw it directly into the AoE of Ball Lightning. Combine this with Raging Tempest or Eye of the Storm to cause even more static and stuns, and it’ll put the enemy players into disarray. Combine it with the Storm Coating consumable and the Elemental Awakenings for Storm Magic that increase the Chain Lightning Effect and Attack Speed.

2Frost Magic

Freeze The World, Heal, Become Unstoppable

Frost magic is the best magic type inV Rising. It has a dual passive — Chill and Frost — which causes a slow and total freeze on enemies. This is reduced on vampires (1.5 seconds max), and in enemies that are immune to Frost (like bosses), the spells deal 25% extra damage and stagger them instead. But the goodness of Frost magic doesn’t end with its already overpowered passive.

When closing the distance with their enemy using Veil of Frost, players can trigger Chill or Frost on them with a melee or ranged blow. Then, they can use Ice Nova to lock them in place, then Crystal Lance to finish them off with a killer move. If the battle turns the other way, players just need to encase themselves in ice using Ice Block, and they’ll heal most of the damage accumulated, also slowing down enemies in a wide area and causing damage and Frost to already Chilled enemies.

Blood Magic V Rising Invaders of Oakveil

Frost magic is primed for PvP, but it causes incredibly disruptive area damage for PvE as well, so it’s easily the best of the lot, with great passives, great AoE, great Crowd Control, and strong survivability. It has received a considerable nerf, and both Chill and Frost are now slightly less effective, while the damage buffs caused to Chilled or Froze enemies have been reduced. But, there’s a new channeled spell added to the frost Magic type: Arctic Storm, which is quite good for dealing with enemies that come raid the players' bases.

1Blood Magic

Repurposed, Recharged. Uber-Healing, And Near-Immortality

Blood Magic is the first type of vampire power players obtain, and many consider its passive, Leech, as one of the most broken in the game. This type of magic has undergone a great updatewith Invaders of Oakveil, with its new spell Carrion Swarm (which is broken) and new and enhanced Spell Modification Jewels that can grant from Snare effects, to the ability to generate Blood Orbs on a critical hit. What players get now is a spell tree with moderate damage but incredible sustain, intended for highly resilient builds, which are ideal forPvP or endgame activities.

With the Leech effect buffed (now it heals 10% of the damage done to affected targets), Blood Magic has become the top-tier magic for survival and attack. Blood Rage has been enhanced with some of the craziest effects, from prolonged duration, snares, up to 30% increased attack, and almost 25 % increased attack speed. If players pick their Jewels correctly, they can turn each Blood Spell into a massive buff/debuff effect that can totally overturn the balance of power.

Spears are now critical for this type of magic, since they boast the highest Critical rate from all weapons. Some are even trying to use Daggers, Whips, and Greatswords, since these weapons do tons of damage and can synergize well with the Leech effects. The Blood Sprat and Sanguine Mastery Elemental Awakenings are so good that they will probably be nerfed soon. So, better take this chance to commit to Blood Magic, and make the most out of it while it’s absolute dominion lasts.
