In the world ofValheim, there are countless deadly threats that players must learn to overcome. While most creatures will attempt to kill players on sight, some are friendly - and a special few will trade with players to provide unique resources, cosmetics, and some much-needed company if players are tackling the game solo.
In a recent update, Hildir joined the game with several itemsto trade for coin. Players can also complete three quests for her, expanding her stock while earning some useful loot from the dungeons they’re sent to.

Where is Hildir?
Every world created inValheimis randomly generated, and this means Hildir does not have a set location; there are several locations where shecanbe, however. A boat is required to complete the voyage to other islands, where Hildir is likely to be - the game aims to spawn her in a meadows biome between 3000 and 5000 meters from the middle of the world where the player spawns. This leaves players with two options:
It should be noted that the second option will show multiple potential locations for Hildir, but she will only appear in the first one the player visits. It’s recommended that players build a portal near Hildir - the chests they must bring her cannot be carried through portals, but it is still useful to have direct access to her camp.
Once she has been found, players can browse Hildir’s initial stock listed below. To accept her quests, interact with the map in front of her - this will mark the location of several dungeons on the map, with only one of each dungeon needing to be beaten to complete her quests - but the rest can still be looted.

First Hildir Quest - Smouldering Tomb
This quest will take players to the Black Forest and have them fighting a mini-boss that is weak to blunt and frost damage. Players are encouraged to enter the smoldering tomb that is closest to Hildir, as they’ll need to go all the way back to her once the loot has been secured. They should also be equipped with armor / weapons of around Iron level, and eat foods that increase their health.

The threats encountered in the Smoldering Tomb aren’t too unfamiliar to players familiar withthe Black Forest biome. Unlike the trolls and Greydwarf shamans found on the surface, all enemies in the smouldering tomb are one-star skeletons that have more health and deal more damage than regular skeletons. They will either attack the player with swords or attempt to shoot them with bows - bringing a shield is highly recommended. Players should also be wary of coffins, as skeletons will emerge from them when approached.
Eventually, players will find theBrennamini-boss and need to defeat it. Her attacks consist of a regular slash and an area-of-effect that will deal fire damage. Fire resistance barley wine can help resist the latter, but the attack has a fairly slow build up that gives ample time to dodge. Parrying is recommended, and Brenna’s weakness to blunt damage can be capitalized on by using a hammer or club.
Upon defeating Brenna, she will dropHildir’s brass chest. Weighing 200 pounds, players will likely need a Megingjord toincrease their carrying capacityor sacrifice some items to carry it back to their boat. As mentioned previously, these chestscannotbe carried through a teleporter, and must be hauled all the way back to Hildir. Her stock will then expand to include the following:
Simple dress brown
350
Simple dress blue
Simple dress yellow
Simple tunic blue
Simple tunic red
Simple tunic yellow
Tied headscarf blue
200
Fur cap brown
Yellow mushrooms

Second Hildir Quest - Howling Cavern
This quest will take playersto the Mountains biome, where they’ll need some cold-resistant armor or mead to survive and lots of stamina to navigate. The mini-boss of this dungeon has a weakness to fire and is totally resistant to frost. The chest it drops also cannot be teleported, so players should be wary of visiting a howling cavern that is especially far away - the weapons they bring should be of Silver level or better, and healing meads will definitely be useful.
Threats within the Howling Cavern are deadly. Besides the mini-boss, players will encounter one-star Ulves that hit hard and pesky one-star bats. Some Ulves will sleep until players approach, so running around is not recommended.
Eventually, players will find theGeirrhafamini-boss and need to defeat it. His attacks consist of melee swipes, a frosty area-of-effect triple blast, and a directional frost blast. The safest time to attack is during the directional blast, but players should be ready to parry at a moment’s notice and use a ranged weapon while the boss is doing AoE blasts. Frost-resistant armor is also necessary to survive lingering damage.
When victorious, players will earnHildir’s silver chest. It cannot be teleported, and also weighs 200 pounds; when returned to Hildir, her stock will include:
Shawl dress brown
450
Shawl dress blue
Shawl dress yellow
Cape tunic blue
Cape tunic red
Cape tunic yellow
Twisted headscarf green
Extravagant cap green
Tied headscarf yellow

Third Hildir Quest - Sealed Tower
To access the tower, players must visitthe dreaded Plains biome. Unlike the other quests' locations, the Sealed Tower appears in the world and does not require players to enter a separate area - this means they’re vulnerable to Deathsquitos and other plains dangers while approaching, making it important to build a bed or portal somewhere near the tower (or in a neighboring biome) to reduce the annoyance of dying. Black metal gear or better is necessary for the tower, as anything weaker will be ineffective.
Accessing the tower requires a lot of wood, as players must place a workbench and several wooden ladders to make their way up to a balcony. Some indestructible ladders and platforms on the sides of the tower can make this slightly less annoying, but enemies inside can emerge and begin throwing spears. Once inside the tower, players must clear several floors of Fulings and Fuling Shamans to reach the bottom floor; they should also take care not to stand in any traps that lay inside the piles of hay.
Upon reaching the first floor, players will face two mini-bosses;Thungr, a melee-focused heavy-hitter, andZil, a spell-casting shaman on Thungr’s back. They both attack simultaneously, but a recommended strategy is to use ranged weapons and hide in the stairwell whenever health gets low. When Zil casts protection spells, they can be broken by attacks or will eventually dissipate on their own. Upon killing Thungr, Zil must be fought solo - be wary of his fireballs and use melee attacks to quickly deplete his health.
When victorious, players will earnHildir’s bronze chest. Like the others, all 200 pounds of it must be carried back to Hildir, where her stock will feature:
Beaded dress brown
550
Beaded dress blue
Beaded dress yellow
Beaded tunic blue
Beaded red tunic
Beaded tunic yellow
Twisted headscarf red
300
Fur cap grey
Extravagant cap orange
Basic firework
50
Amber Pearl
Chain
Upon returning the final chest, Hildir will be fully stocked. The increased number of things to purchase seems to be the only reward the game offers, but this may change in future - for now, it seems a well-dressed Viking is a happy Viking.
Valheimis available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S / X.
