The new DLC forVampire Survivors, titledLegacy of the Moonspell, added more new content than version 1.0. Among this new content were new characters, new weapons, but also a new stage - Mt. Moonspell. This stage is quite a bit different from the other stages, and as such requires a different strategy if the player wants to make it to the 30-minute mark.

Unlike most of the other stages inVampire Survivors, Mt. Moonspell has different regions. The other main stages, like Mad Forest and Dairy Plant, go on forever, and one part of the stage looks like any other. Mt. Moonspell’s setting is the base of a mountain. The beginning of the stage begins in grasslands. If the player heads north they will begin climbing the mountain whereas other areas (to the south) resemble a classical Japanese village.

Starting Mt. Moonspell

This stage is challenging. There are parts, notably in the mountainous regions, where even a fully leveled build will still struggle to clear creatures from the character’s path. The creatures lurking in the caves are beyond powerful, and capable of taking as many hits as bosses. The mountain passages are incredibly narrow. This makes maneuvering around enemy waves tricky, and can easily lead to the player getting cornered - which typically leads to a quick demise. Because of these two factors, it’s advisable toget the Laurel weaponif possible. This will give the player a few seconds of invulnerability if they get cornered and have to push through a horde of creatures. The Pummarola and Metaglio Left are also smart pick-ups. These will also help keep the player alive longer but aren’t as useful as the Laurel.

Players will want to hang around the starting area until they get a few weapons and passive items. Don’t be afraid to spend a little gold at the merchant buying weapons like theLa Robba or the Cherry Bomb, which both work well in the tight corridors of Mt. Moonspell.

Exploring The Mountain And Village

Many of the stage items, like the Candelabrador, are located in the mountain caves. Players should avoid seeking out these items until they have a few weapons. The reason for this is that the creatures encountered in the caves are tough; it’s like being swarmed by boss-level creatures. Even with a strong build, these caves are dangerous, and the fact that it’s easy to get cornered in these caves makes them even more dangerous. Only enter the mountain caves if there’s a reason to do so.

To the south of the starting point is the village. The enemies in this area are not as tough as those in the mountains. That being stated, there are some areas in the southern village area whereenemies can literally fill the entire screenif the player’s weapons are too weak.

Ideal Loadout

The Mt. Moonspell stage will put players' best build to the test, and many players might discover that their go-to build just doesn’t cut it in this stage. The narrow passages in Mt. Moonspell work well with theRunetracer, Bone, and Cherry Bomb weaponsdue to their ability to bounce off walls or enemy creatures. The Victory Sword and Flames of Misspell weapons needthe Torrona’s Box passive itemat full level to evolve. At max level, the curse of Torrona’s Box makes the Mt. Moonspell stage close to unbeatable. So, it’s best to avoid getting these two weapons.

The Night Sword weapon is one of the stage items; players might want to avoid getting this weapon ontheir first playthrough. The Night Sword causes damage to the wielder. This isn’t something players will want to deal with on their first attempt at this challenging stage. The Whip and Song of Mana are also ideal weapons for this stage. They are perfect for clearing a path through the narrow passages. The best weapon combo for Mt. Moonspell isthe Greatest Jubileeand Summon Night. Theseweapons work well in tandem. The Summon Night covers the top portion of the screen, while the Greatest Jubilee’s finisher protects the lower portion. Lastly, the Garlic weapon isn’t a bad choice. It helps keep enemies at bay, and the evolved form offers much-needed (in this stage) healing.
