WhileWarhammer 40,000: Darktideisn’t exactly the most forgiving game oreven the most optimized one, that doesn’t mean the game is without accessibility options.

There are a lot of very specific things people will want to change to make sure their Reject and their gameplay work exactly the way they need them to. So, let’s go over some of the lesser-known accessibility settings people didn’t knowWarhammer 40k: Darktidehad.

8Hold To Crouch

First off, let’s start with an option that the community would recommend adjusting. By default, the game has “Hold to Crouch” turned off in the Input tab of the Settings Menu. But, most players tend to turn it on for one simple reason, sliding.Darktideintroduces a lot of ranged enemies, especially on higher difficulties, who can decimate players in an instant with a barrage of gunfire.

There are ways to get around this, such as proper positioning, a Force Sword with Deflector, or using the Shield on Ogryn, but the most accessible way is with sliding (whichthe Ogryn still looks great doing). When a player slides, they almost always avoid gunfire, and it’s only possible to slide this often and easily if Hold to Crouch is on.

7Binding Multiple Actions To The Same Input

Now, this next setting isn’t quite as accessible as it could be, but it’s still pretty helpful. In the Keybinds Tab of the Settings Menu, players can change the keys or buttons their inputs are bound to, which should be common sense.

But, what people might not realize is that they can actually bind two different actions to one input. With this, players can set Dodge to the same input as Sprint or Ping to the same input as Attack. Again, it would be better if every action just had a primary and secondary option for inputs, but this still works pretty well for players who often forget to ping Elite enemies or dodge in the heat of melee combat.

6HUD Scale

Yet another accessibility option that isn’t quite as good as it could be is the HUD Scale option. This is found in the Accessibility section of the Interface Tab in Settings, and it allows players to decrease the size of their HUD. Some players find that UI elements get in the way of gameplay a lot of the time, especially with something like Psyker’s Peril Meter occupying a lot of the middle of the screen.

With this option, at least they can shrink it so that the game feels more immersive. Sadly, there’s no increasing it from 100 percent, as this would help with the icons that keep track of buffs or stacks of auras like coherency.

5FOV Slider

Next up is the Field of View slider, a common option in any game. While this allows players to bring the camera closer or push it farther away, it also has an impact on the game’s performance overall, since a smaller FOV will literally have fewer things on the screen at once.

Still, FOV adjustments can help a lot of players with overall clarity in games (making it easierto scan samples with the Auspex) as well as general motion sickness, so it’s good that there’s an option regardless.

4Camera Sway Intensity

Speaking of motion sickness, likely the most helpful option in regards to this is the Camera Sway slider. This can be found in the Accessibility portion of the Interface Settings and is right underneath the HUD Scale option. For those who don’t know what Camera Sway is, this usually refers to the sway of the camera when players are running or moving fast in some way.

It’s meant to imitate how it would actually ‘feel’ to be that person going through that movement, but a lot of times it just makes people queasy and it can mess with visual clarity as well in important moments. Plus, its not like the player wants to feel the motion swaythat a Space Marine feelswhile they’re mowing down Orcs or Tyranids.

3Stationary Dodge & Diagonal Forward Dodge Option

If there’s one thingVermintide 2players could tell every newDarktideplayer all at once,it’s to learn the Dodging system. Dodging in these games is of vital importance because these players are going to be attacked often and from all sides. Sure, blocking works, but only as long as they have stamina, and it won’thold out against the bigger Elite enemieslike Ragers, Maulers, or Crushers.

So, by turning on Stationary Dodge, players can enable the ability to Dodge backward just by pressing their Dodge input while standing still. This is incredibly helpful during combat while players are swinging while trying to back up. As for Diagonal Forward Dodge, it’s very similar. Essentially, while holding forward and either right or left, players can press the dodge input to go in that direction, rather than jumping. This makes dodging out of the way of gunfire while approaching Gunners or Snipers so much more doable.

2Subtitle Speaker Indicator

Not only are Subtitles incredibly helpful for making dialogue and sound effects easily understandable to everyone, but they’re also just convenient. Most players will be experiencingDarktidewhile in a Discord call with their friends or using the in-game voice chat, so hearing audio cues for Elite enemies can be a bit tough.

But, with Subtitle Speaker Indicator on, it’s easier to parse the Reject’s quips from Zola’s and it’s even easier to tell when a Flamer or Trapper is coming (since they’re both Elites that talk).

1Audible Noise For Criticals, Backstabs, & Team Pings

And finally let’s end things on another audio setting, the three options for Criticals, Backstabs, and Team Ping sounds. As with most video games, hitting an enemy in the head or in their back counts as a critical area and does extra damage, so knowing when that’s happened by sound alone is helpful, especially duringsome of the chaotic Mission Typeswith a lot of different objectives.

Of course, players can also look at the color of the hit marker too, as it turns yellow when the hit is critical. Still, being able to enable (or disable) these sounds just gives players more options for clarity during a chaotic mission.
