Tom Holland teams up once again withAvengers: Endgamedirectors Joe and Anthony Russo in the upcoming filmCherry. Apple TV Plus dropped the first teaser forCherry, which shows Tom Holland playing a character that isvery different from Peter Parker.
Cherryis based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Nico Walker, which follows a young man who joins the army and later becomes a drug addict and bank robber when he returns home during the opioid epidemic. The new clip showsTom Holland as the lead character, straight-faced and wearing glasses, going to an Armed Forces career center. When asked why he wants to join up he says, “Well I’ve just been seeing on the news, you know, that there are kids dying over there, you know, guys from Cleveland who are my age, just trying to do something good, and here I am feeling sorry for myself because my girlfriend broke up with me.” The army recruiter suggests he’s searching for a sense of purpose, and we hear Tom Holland narrating that he was sworn in the next day, with the clip showing just that.

Despite teaming up with the Russo Brothers again,Cherryis a departure from both the directors and from Tom Holland’s role as Peter Parker in the MCU. Tom Holland’s voice and narration in the clip is serious, almost monotone, not resembling the energetic Queens fast-talk of Peter.
