Four years afterMTV’sTeen Wolfconcluded, the television series announced that they’re far from done. The supernatural series has announced that in 2022,Teen Wolffans will be able to return to Beacon Hills courtesy of Paramount Plus.

Little details have been released of theMTVseries' reboot thus far. Anxious fans have already begun to speculate which original cast members will return for the Paramount Plus film and in what capacity they will appear. The series was loosely adapted fromthe 1985 film of the same name, starring Michael J. Fox.Teen Wolfran for six seasons prior to its ending in 2017, where many beloved characters were seen graduating from high school and moving away from the supernatural beacon of Beacon Hills. The reboot lends itself to explore how Beacon Hills and its former residents will have changed over the last few years.

Of the limited details released about theTeen Wolfreboot, it has been announced that the creator of the MTV series will write and executively produce the film. Creator Jeff Davis has also been announced to be the showrunner of a new series,Wolf Pack, based on the novels of Edo Van Belkom. Aside from his involvement with the supernatural, Davis is also infamously known for creating the crime drama series,Criminal Minds, where he also served as a writer and producer. Davis’Teen Wolfgrew to popularity following its 2011 release date and maintained an audience of dedicated viewers. Davis ultimately decided to end the series once it reached 100 episodes at the end of its sixth season.

The released synopsis of the newTeen Wolffilm will sound familiar to fans of the series. The description reveals that “a terrifying evil has emerged in the town of Beacon Hills. The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of Banshees, Werecoyotes,Hellhounds, Kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night. But only a Werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager yet still an Alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.” While no official cast list has been released, the synopsis gives a reasonable glimpse at who may make an appearance in theTeen Wolfreboot.

As the description hints, not all supernatural beings inTeen Wolfwere werewolves. By naming Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, and Kitsunes, it seems to confirm the return of a number ofTeen Wolffavorites. Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, Ryan Kelley, and Kira Yukimura portrayedthese various supernatural beings, prompting the reasonable assumption that they will reprise their respective roles. As the main character (and only one named in the synopsis), Tyler Posey will likely reprise his role as Scott McCall. Leading up to the announcement, Posey had been posting throwbacks toTeen Wolf. On the day of the announcement, Posey asked if the series' official account had anything for him to share, prompting the release of the trailer.

With Posey appearing to have confirmed his involvement, many other cast members began to tease what appears to betheir own involvement in the reboot. Many began to share the trailer on social media with short captions that appear to confirm their involvement with the project. Among them are Colton Haynes, Holland Roden, Dylan Sprayberry, Cody Christian, Linden Ashby, JR Bourne, Ian Bohen, and Orny Adams. Melissa Ponzio (who played Scott’s mother, Melissa) has brushed off questions regarding her return, but with many of the otherTeen Wolfparents returning, it’s likely that Ponzio will join them.

Amidst the teasing, only oneTeen Wolfstar has outright said they will be part of the movie. Like many of his cast members, Ashbyreposted the teaser traileron social media. He began responding to a few fan questions, including one that asked if he would return. Confirming that he would be back to play Sheriff Stilinksi, people quickly asked if that meant Dylan O’Brien would return to play fan favorite, Stiles Stilinksi. When asked if the film would include more moments between the father and son, Ashby responded that it would. O’Brien has made no official comment himself, but Ashby seemingly confirms O’Brien’s return. All of this speculation over the involvement does leave quite a few unaccounted for.Tyler Hoechlinhas not been announced to return as Derek Hale, nor has Daniel Sharman or Charlie Carver. Carver made an appearance alongside Haynes in the final season, but Sharman has not been seen on the show since his character departed at the end of season three.

With the synopsis' implication that Scott is no longer a teen, the movie will likely take place after college. Scott (who was seen aiding young werewolves with Chris Argent in the finale) will have grown his pack to an impressive size, allowing fornew characters to be introduced. The post-college setting would put a few of the younger members of the pack (Liam, Mason, Corey, and Hayden) in the middle of their studies, but will likely allow them to return for their Alpha. Jackson and Ethan’s involvement in the series finale also bodes well for Haynes and Carver to join the returning pack members.

Prior to its final episode,Teen Wolfwas able towrap up many of the storylinesthat began as far back as season one. Because some of them received their ending so late, some felt deprived of content they felt they waited far too long to see. The relationship between Stiles and Lydia gradually burned from season one and because of the setbacks they faced, it took even longer to come to fruition. Should both Roden and O’Brien return,Teen Wolfhas the potential to include more of what fans are still eager to see. With so manyTeen Wolfcharacters having such intertwined stories, having a reboot without one of them would certainly feel like a piece of the story is missing.

Paramount Plus has already become home to a few reboots (including Nickelodeon’siCarly). Like some of these rebooted shows, the newTeen Wolfadaptation will have the potential to explore former storylines while showing a new side to characters that have gone through new life changes in the last four years. With 2022 only a few months away, details of theTeen Wolfreboot will continue to come to light.

Teen Wolfis now streaming on Hulu.
