With so many arcs, there is no shortage of villains inOne Piece. For a long time, Donquixote Doflaimingo has been considered to be the best villain in the series. His charisma and ruthlessness earned him the praise of fans. In addition to his malevolent personality, Doflamingo also had a great deal of strength.
But, as the manga moved towards the Wano Country arc, a new candidate emerged for the position of the best villain. This candidate is none other than Kaido. Kaido’s name was brought up many times before the Straw Hats even entered Wano, but it wasn’t until the arc started that the fans found out more about him. So, what made Kaido different from all the previous villains inOne Piece?

His Strength and Past
Kaido’s past was kept under the wraps for a very long time, and it wasn’t until his decisive fight with Luffy that Oda decided to reveal Kaido’s past. Kaido was considered to be an extremely strong person even when he was a young kid.
His strength helped his people to win several wars, but due to their lack of money, Kaido was sold to the Navy. However, Kaido was against this decisionand the Celestial Dragons, so he ran away. At one point, Whitebeard asked Kaido to join the Rocks Pirates, where he stayed until the God Valley incident. Then Kaido started his own crew, which eventually came to be known as the Beasts Pirates.
Kaido’s strength earned him the respect of the Navy and all the pirates of the world. After eatingthe Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, Kaido’s physical strength received a significant boost. His strength continued to increase, and it reached the point where he became one of the Yonko.
Due to his power, Kaido received the title of the “Strongest Creature in the World.” On numerous occasions, Kaido mentioned that only a handful of people have ever managed to hurt him in a fight. He named Shanks, Roger, Whitebeard, Xebec, and Oden as the only people whom he considered to be on his level. The newest addition to this elite group was Luffy, who managed to learn how to use Advanced Conqueror’s Haki to hurt Kaido.
Devil Fruit And Haki
Kaido possesses Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, which is a mythical zoan type devil fruit. The devil fruit allows Kaido to turn into a giant dragon that can cover an entire town. His devil fruit attacks are capable of causing massive destruction as seen in the manga numerous times. In his hybrid form, Kaido was able to blitz Luffy multiple times. Also, the devil fruit made his skin so tough that it was almost impossible to penetrate with normal Haki-based attacks.

Kaido has displayed a very high level of Haki. He has great control over Armament and Observation Haki, but hisbiggest weapon is the Advanced Conqueror’s Haki.The members of the Worst Generation stood absolutely no chance against Kaido because he coated his body with Advanced Conqueror’s Haki. Luffy only managed to defeat him after he learned to use it as well.
Ruthless Yet Respectful
At the beginningof the Wano Country arc, Kaido was considered to be an evil character, who had absolutely no regard for the lives of others. He just wanted to spread destruction throughout the world, but the flashback made it clear that Kaido believed that the only way of bringing equality throughout the world was through war. He believed that only in war could people be equal and free.
Kaido also seemed to hold respect for people who gave him a great fight. When Kaido fought against Oden, the latter was close to winning, but Kurozumi Higurashi managed to distract Oden. This allowed Kaido to land a decisive blow on the samurai.
Kaido won the fight, but he was not satisfied due to Higurashi’s interference. This regret of not having a fair fight lived inside Kaido until he fought Luffy on Onigashima. However, this fight was once again interrupted and this time it was a member of CP0, who distracted Luffy and enabled Kaido to land a powerful blow on the young rookie. After this incident, Kaido was furious as he remembered his fight against Oden and how it was also ruined. So, he immediately attacked the CP0 member.
The Ultimate Villain So Far
Kaido has surpassed all the villainsin the series in all aspects. He is the strongest opponent that Luffy has faced, and it will be a few arcs before Luffy fights someone as strong as Kaido. Kaido’s ideology is interesting, which proves that he is not a mindless brute. He has suffered in his past, but he managed to rise above all of his problems and became one of the Yonko.
Perhaps one of Kaido’s biggest qualities is that he always seeks a good challenge. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Kaido considered himself to be the next Joy Boy as he told King that the only person who could actually beat him was Joy Boy. Kaido had his own plans for the world, and it would have definitely been interesting to see how they would have panned out, but there’s no doubt that Kaido is the best villain inOne Pieceso far.
