Destiny 2’sOperation: Seraph’s Shield continues to be a fan favorite amid the community, with praise going toward its difficulty, length, puzzles, room, encounters, and secrets. While the aesthetic for Operation: Seraph’s Shield is similar to other levels involving Clovis Bray facilities and stations inDestiny 2, the quest itself is particularly admired due to its complexity and how it’s been built off an already popular Season with Season of the Seraph.
Season of Plunder reached the lowest membership seen in a while in theDestinycommunity, which may be in part due to its repetitive nature.Season of the Seraph, on the other hand, features multiple quests that tie into the story along with weaving in an Exotic quest that awards players with Revision Zero, which feels like a breath of fresh air. Aspects of Operation: Seraph’s Shield call back to the popular Presage quest last year, which has only helped elevate the current mission’s popularity.

How Operation: Seraph’s Shield Compares to Presage
Presage was featured duringDestiny 2’s Season of the Chosen. During the quest, guardians embarked on a mysterious journey through a semi-abandoned Cabal spaceship. This quest is fondly remembered for the Exotic scout rife, Dead Man’s Tale, which was found at the end of the mission. This mirrors that the Exotic pulse rifle, Revision Zero, remains at the end of Operation: Seraph’s Shield. Part of the allure of Presage was that players needed to discover 15 Presage clues to unlock the Gilgamesh Ghost Shell while further unlocking the secrets of the Glykon. Eventually,Destiny 2’s Dead Man’s Talewas also awarded.
Destiny 2’s Presage missionitself did take some time to complete, reminiscent of Operation: Seraph’s Shield. However, this year’s mission is more prolonged, yet both involved solving intricate puzzles while facing off against a myriad of challenging enemies, especially in the new Legendary mode. While there were clues in Presage needed to unlock the Exotic Gilgamesh Shell, this Season sees secret rooms requiring high-level security clearances to destroy drones inside with the new Revision Zero Exotic. During Week 4, progressing More Than a Weapon, the actual seasonal quest in Season 19, opens more quests for the Revision Zero catalysts. These catalysts will be contained to their own pursuits in the coming weeks.
Operation: Seraph’s Shield Raises the Bar for Future Quests
As players progress through the mission, many will recognize mechanics similar to the Deep Stone Crypt Raid. The overlapping elements involve obtaining Augments fromHouse Salvation Fallen enemies, such as Scanners and Operator protocols. Once slaying the corresponding Fallen, players must interact with the Augment station and then the Augment itself, which is left behind to view terminals and interfaces which glow to guide players to the next area. Despite borrowing mechanics from the Deep Stone Crypt Raid, these puzzles are most likely refreshing to newer players.
Another critical element of Operation: Seraph’s Shield involves players traversing outsideDestiny 2’s Clovis Bray Orbital Station, jumping across different mechanical arms and platforms to reach a safety zone. Not only is this a harrowing adventure that features a new visual death animation if players fail to land the jump, but the view is breathtaking, maneuvering across the Orbital platforms. Despite the stunning views, players need to be extra careful, as plenty of Fallen drones and Hive enemies patrol the outer ramps and platforms, waiting to strike Guardians down.
While theDeep Stone Crypt Raidprovides similar puzzles and aesthetics compared to Operation: Seraph’s Shield, many players have found The Hidden Shape, which launches Operation: Seraph’s Shield, very refreshing. With this in mind, it would make sense for Bungie to continue providing players with intricate quests that not only build narratively on the Seasonal activities but which provide players with rewarding puzzles, sights, and challenges. Even if elements are re-skinned from past locations, More Than a Weapon, The Hidden Shape, Operation: Seraph’s Shield, and the catalyst quests have reinvigorated many players.
