Players who buy a copy ofSpider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Editionwill also get their hands on a copy ofSpider-Man Remasteredfor the PS5. While most players can expect the digital quality to be a lot higher, there will also be a number of other changes to the 2018 game, includingthree new Spider-Man suitsand a change to main character Peter Parker’s face.
The chance to playSpider-Man Remasteredis exciting to a lot of fans of the original game, and many people are looking forward to seeing how Insomniac Games takes a game published two years ago for PS4 into the level of quality expected of PS5 games. A post on the PlayStation Blog advertises new assets and use of more advanced technology, which is all to be expected for a remaster. However, one big surprise is that Peter Parker is getting a new face.

People who played the originalSpider-Mangame may remember that Peter’s face model is named John Bubniak, but if they’ve gotten used to seeing his face, they’re getting a big change. Thenew face capture model for Peter Parker, Ben Jordan, is also a young-looking Caucasian brunette, but it may still come as shock for those who logged major hours into Spider-Man to see Peter wearing a completely different face now.
While some people may be confused about this move, the PlayStation Blog makes it clear that the devs had a good experience working with Bubniak, but the model change is actually to more accurately mimicPeter’s voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal. The voice actor is well-known for providing the voices of Sasuke Uchiha inNaruto, the titular character inBen 10,and Marth inFire Emblem, among other roles. So if someone had to leaveSpider-Man Remastered, it wasn’t going to be as prominent a voice actor as Lowenthal.
Because keeping Lowenthal on the project was so important, apparently the devs wanted to match his facial capture better, even though many fans believe Bubniak and Lowenthal matched up just fine. The PlayStation post credits Jordan’s performance as the new model as giving theSpider-Man voice actor"new life," so maybe this was just part of a move to makeSpider-Man Remasteredfeel more fresh.
There has been a mixed response to the Peter Parker face change so far. Some fans think that his new face makes Peter Parker look too young, and that it’s too drastic of a change. Others, however, are fine with Insomniac’s choice and accept the reasoning behind the decision. It will be interesting to see how fans react to the change once they actually get their hands on the game this coming November and can play through the entire story with Peter’s new face.
Fans can watch avideo ofSpider-Man Remastered’s new take on a conversation between Doc Ock and Peter Parker, and get a taste of what new emotion Jordan brings to the character through his face modelling.
Spider-Man Remasteredwill be available withSpider-Man: Miles Morales: Ultimate EditionNovember 12th on PS4 and PS5.
