Summary
World of Warcraftjust added a new gold sink achievement to its Love is in the Air event that seemingly gives very little payoff. WhileWorld of Warcraftis no stranger to gold sinks, this new achievement is oddly bereft of any rewards to make earning it worthwhile.
Love is in the Air is theWorld of Warcraftevent that acts as the in-game equivalent to Valentine’s Day. While it is not uncommon for the game to add new things to the event, this year, it gave Love is in the Air a full makeover, featuringnewWorld of Warcraftevent quests, rewards, and achievements players can experience from now through February 19.
However, one of these achievements has players baffled due to its pointlessly high cost.Support Your Local Artisansis a new achievement fans can get by donating a total of 70,000 gold to the Artisan’s Consortium in support of the Gala of Gifts, which players can do in increments of 10,000 gold a day at Galvus Ironhammer near Stormwind, or Torgando Featherhoof near Orgrimmar. That said, beyond the accomplishment itself, the achievement doesn’t seem to give any major rewards.
New Valentine’s Day Gold Sink Achievement in WoW
To be fair, players are reportedly receiving a Bundle of Love Tokens through the mail in exchange for their 10,000 gold donations, each of which contains 10 of the event currency. It remains to be seen if this is a one-time gift, or if they will receive it every time they make this donation. Either way, 10 Love Tokens for 10,000 gold is hardly a good exchange rate, so it is far from a proper incentive or reward, especially when they can get anew Dragonriding drake customization for 50,000 gold duringWoW’s Lunar Festival, taking place concurrently with Love is in the Air.
Previous gold sinks inWorld of Warcrafthave always provided valuable rewards in exchange. The Reins of the Grand Expedition Yak mount for 120,000 gold provides a mobile transmog station, and the limited-time Mighty Caravan Brutosaur costs a steep 5,000,000 gold but includes a mobile auction house. With this new achievement seemingly providing no substantial rewards, players may be better off saving their gold for thegold sink cosmeticsWorld of Warcraftadded last month, as they will vanish indefinitely at the end of August.
